Project Description: |
: We are requesting financial assistance to purchase a 25 acre tract that has a 48,000 sq. ft covered engineered steel building newly constructed on the property to serve as a regional multi-use agricultural, heritage & equestrian center. Walton County currently does not have a facility like this. It would serve as a multi-use facility to enhance to the 4-H Program, provide a place for an Agricultural and Heritage Center, and enhance agri-tourism for Walton County. This facility could also serve as a staging area for disaster relief in a disaster event. The property can be accessed from County Road 2, and is approximately 6 miles west of the intersection of County Highway 2 and US Highway 331 North. Since the closing of Camp Timpoochee, and the loss of a variety of 4-H and community programs, there is a great need to reestablish a 4-H program. The major obstacle for reestablishing a 4-H Program is not having a facility for the many activities related to the program. Also, our County Extension Office would like to institute a Master Gardeners Program and various agricultural and heritage type programs at this site, if the county can acquire it. This site would be a facility in which summer camp events, seminars, shows and community festivals would be held. |
