Sponsors: Constantine

Statewide Interest:
Governor charlie Crist's Executive Order Number 07-127 has directed governmental entities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10% by 2012. this project is a multi-agency regional collaboration intended to significantly promote the use of renewable energy resources and decrease greenhouse gases and air pollutants. In a unique public, private partnership, LYNX and Orange County, in collaboratin with the Orlando Utilities Commission, have committed to lead the state to imlement a large-scale conversion effort that is intended to set a transportation industry standard by converting traditional diesel fleets to biodiesel blend. This multi-agency arrangement will serve as a catalyst in advancing a statewide "Green Transit Program," consistent with Governor Crist's "Serve to Preserve Program" and Mayor Crotty's Climate Change Plan.

Project Description:
The transportation sector is the largest consumer of petroleum in the United States, accounting for 67% of America's petroleum consumption and producing 28% of our greenhouse gas emmisions. LYNX is committed to achieving Governor Crist's call for governmental entities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lowering our regions carbon footprint through a transportation-related unique public, private collaboration consisting of the Governments of Orange County, the City of Orlando, the Orlando Utility Company and the entire LYNX fleet. By installing a state-of-the-art, on demand biodiesel blending station at the new LYNX operation and fueling facility, approximately five million gallons of additional bio-diesel fuel could be generated annually to convert and supply 280 LYNX buses, the diesel fleets of Orange county and Orlando city governments, and the truck fleet of the Orlando Utilities Commission. This will prove to be the largest alternative fuel infrastructure and distribution project and the first multi-agency biodiesel project in the State of Florida and one of only a handful in the nation. Implementing this program generates a 20% reduction on fossil fuel dependency across the board and will result in an immediate 16% reduction in carbon emissions, surpassing Governor Crist's executive order goals.
