Project Description: |
The natural landscape in Orange County is characterized by a series of interconnected or isolated lakes, most of which have been documented to have water quality problems associated with discharge of urban stormwater systems. In particular, high levels of nutrients have adversely impacted in-lake ecology and pose a risk to human health and safety. In an attempt to proactively address this issue, Orange County, in consultation with DEP and in partnership with the St. Johns River and South Florida water mangement districts, seeks to implement a series of systems to treat direct stormwater run-off, during low periods of low flow (dry season) and also in-lake water quality by withdrawing water from the impaired water body, circulating it through treatment systems and returning the water to the lake, thus increasing the assimilative capacity of the surface water body. Thus, this request is to fund environmental restoration which will include stormwater treatment, habitat restoration, and monitoring public outreach. |
