Statewide Interest:
The project addresses the statewide need to provide alternatives for youth who might require intervention services through the Department of Juvenile Justice. In addition to being a cost effective alternative to Judicial and Department of Juvenile Justice intervention services, children and their families are provided services that assist in reducing the probability of future involvement with the criminal justice system thus reducing future real and societal costs.

Project Description:
� Children between the age of 7-18 years of age, and their family members, who are risk of formally entering Florida�s Juvenile Justice that are referred by a law enforcement or judge as a diversion to having a formal Juvenile Justice adjudication may be eligible for ADAP services. � Services are targeted to specifically address the action that may have resulted in adjudication including but not limited to: domestic violence; shoplifting; community violence; substance abuse and gang activities. Model Prevention psycho-educational group programs of 6 to 10 sessions are provided for the targeted area(s) of concern. � Mental Health Counseling for the child and family will be provided, as required. � A Family Support and Education Night will be offered to provide educational and peer support opportunities. � In-class prevention group activities provided in Middle and High School Funding will be used to: - Expand current programming occurring in Sarasota County to further meet the growing need in Sarasota County in high risk zip code areas and to implement the program in selected high risk zip codes in Manatee County where no similar type of program currently exists. - Implementation of In-class prevention group activity (domestic violence; shoplifting; community violence; substance abuse and gang activities) provided in Sarasota and Manatee Middle and High Schools.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
1. 80% of program completers will demonstrate increased knowledge of their specialized group. 2. 75% of program completers will demonstrate a decline in self assessed negative behaviors. 3. 70% of program completers will have their parents/guardian or teacher indicates the participant�s behavior had improved. 4. 80% of all youth referred to ADAP will complete their assigned program. 5. 90% of program completers will live or go to school in a high risk zip code area 6. 95% of referred children will not re-offend while participating 7. 80% of program completers will not re-offend for 12 months following the program completion 8. It is anticipated 240 children will be enrolled between Manatee and Sarasota Counties.
