Project Description: |
Arterial roadways were constructed on the periphery of Universal Studios Florida as part of that development during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Due to the complicated nature of the drainage system in this area and hydrolic changes that resulted due to development, severe flooding has been severe enough to cause accidents, damage to private property, and injuries. As the receiving water, Lake Cane, is surrounded by residential development served by septic systems, correction of the uncontrolled flooding is particularly important to Shingle Creek and the rest of the Upper Kissimmee River basin.
The request will enable the City to fully evaluate the problem and recommend solutions that will solve the problem permanently. Part of the design expenditure will enable the City to procure survey services for the purpose of determining how the existing system is configured. This will allow the City to properly analyze and re-design the system.
Correction of the problems in this area will protect Lake Cane and other downstream water bodies that could be impacted by septic system overflows, and will ensure that the arterial roadways function in a manner that promotes the movement of traffic in a safe manner, without the potential for injuries, roadway deterioration or vehicular damage. |
