Statewide Interest: |
The proposed project will provide a state-of-the-art Solar Energy system that will be a showpiece for the City of Tallahassee and the State of Florida. It addresses statewide interests by producing clean, renewable electric energy, supporting the Governors climate change goals. Solar energy is expected to have a significant role in meeting the States future energy needs. This project will have the benefit of being one of the largest in the area, and also being prominently located at the State Capital. It will attract interest not only statewide, but nationwide, in economic development opportunities from the clean energy industry, and bring the State to the forefront in environmental stewardship. |

Project Description: |
A solar photovoltaic array would be located on the Capital courtyard, co-sponsored by the City of Tallahassee and the State Department of Management Services. Signs would identify the partnership and emphasize the Citys commitment to renewable energy sources, and would be seen daily by all visitors to the Capital. This project would promote cooperation between state and city government, attract high-tech business to the community and state, and encourage visitors to consider alternative energy choices, all while producing clean, renewable energy for citizens and businesses. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
This Solar Energy System will be among the largest in Tallahassee, producing over 60,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable solar electricity each year for the State Capital Complex, reducing energy costs to the state government. Use of Solar Photovoltaic energy replaces energy produced by fossil fuels, and thus benefits the environment through reduced pollutants, including Greenhouse gas emissions, forwarding the Governors climate change goals. Once built and operating, the Capital Courtyard Solar Energy project will be visible to visitors to the Capital, attracting interest in renewable energy, and serving as a showpiece for the State of Florida. |
