Statewide Interest: |
The proposed project will provide a state-of-the-art Solar Energy system that will be a showpiece for the City of Tallahassee and the State of Florida. It addresses statewide interests by producing clean, renewable electric energy, supporting the Governors climate change goals. Solar energy is expected to have a significant role in meeting the States future energy needs. This project will have the benefit of being one of the largest in the area, and also being prominently located at the Tallahassee Regional Airport. This location will result in excellent promotion of the Citys and States renewable energy initiatives as travelers from all over the country see the project as they move in and out of the airport. This will create positive comparisons to other cities and states and promote our area as a clean energy capital. |

Project Description: |
A solar PV array would be located at Tallahassee Regional Airport. The project will include signage that states the Citys commitment to renewable energy sources, and would be seen daily by all travelers coming in and out of Tallahassee Airport. This project would improve the City's image as a leading green city, attracting comparisons to other cities around the country. It is anticipated that the project would be a starting point for further development of high-tech, renewable energy projects and businesses in the community and state, and encourage visitors to consider alternative energy choices, all while producing clean, renewable energy for citizens and businesses. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
This Solar Energy System will be among the largest in Tallahassee, producing over 60,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable solar electricity each year for the Tallahassee Regional Airport, reducing its energy costs. Use of Solar Photovoltaic energy replaces energy produced by fossil fuels, and thus benefits the environment through reduced pollutants, including Greenhouse gas emissions, forwarding the Governors climate change goals. Once built and operating, the Tallahassee Regional Airport Solar Energy project will be visible to travelers from in and out of the state, attracting interest in renewable energy, and serving as a showpiece for the State of Florida. |
