Statewide Interest:
The project expands the current appropriation in line item 657, which provides partial funding for Shands HealthCare for statewide indigent care. Shands HealthCare and Jackson Health System provide unique health care services to Florida's uninsured. The two health systems combined provide 25% of the charity care in the State, which would otherwise be a burden on the State of Florida

Project Description:
Jackson Health System and Shands HealthCare are Florida's largest STATEWIDE charity care providers. Florida's large uninsured population is growing rapidly. Jackson and Shands request a $30,213,021 indigent care appropriation to assist tem with their rising cost of providing 25% of the Florida charity care.
