Project Description:
Currently approximately 50% of the Village of Pinecrest residents are using potable well systems which draw water from the Biscayne Aquifer. As such, these wells are highly susceptible to both regional and local water management changes to the primary and secondary canal ystem of Miami-Dade County. As recently documented by the Department of Envrionmental resurces Management, proposed changes to the local drainage system by neighboring cities wishing to enhance flood control jeopardize theVillage's private wells making them vulnerable to saltwater intrusion. Fire protection is another one of the main reasons for the dire need of the project. Following the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 many residents who did not have generators were unable to extract water from their wells.
