Fun 4 Kidz Home Field Advantage Program

Requester: Andrew B. Post Organization Organization: Fun 4 Kidz, Inc.

Project Title: Fun 4 Kidz Home Field Advantage Program Date Submitted 1/4/2008 9:58:07 AM

Sponsors: Bullard

Statewide Interest:
The Fun 4 Kidz Home Field Advantage Program addresses a need in enhancing the academic achievements and social competency of at-risk children. The participating children in this program are all living in homeless shelters. The life they know is very transient, and this program provides a source stability and enrichment to these children. Through added tutoring hours, scores on standardized tests will increase. This will lead to more children completing grades on time as well as graduating at higher rates. The extra curricular aspect to the program will provide for healthier, more active children. Additionally, children who participate in this program spend less time on the streets where they have little direction, and more time in a productive environment.

Project Description:
Many children in Miami-Dade County do not have the privilege of traveling around to different areas in order to participate in exciting activities such as athletic leagues, dance classes, and tutoring opportunities. Additionally the majority of these children have done poorly on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, sadly causing them to stay behind from their appropriate grade level. With this in mind, the Fun 4 Kidz Field Advantage Program is designed to bring coaches, teachers, and positive role models into the homes and shelters where these children live. The three shelters and homes that we have chosen as participants in the 2007-2008 programs are The Community Partnership for Homeless (CPHI) - South Dade Facility, Camillus House Mother Seaton Village, and the Inn Transition South. The children at these three facilities will be able to experience events and qualities in life that they would have never gotten the chance to experience without our program. On Saturday's from 9:00am- 1:00pm, the children will be tutored by certified public school teachers and teacher assistants from both high school and college levels who will venture to their homes and conduct fundamental and educational classes.
