Project Description:
The Black on Black Crime Task Forse is a crime prevention, private non-profit organization established in 1983. The Black on Black Crime Task Force operates community-based programs throughout the City of Gainesville and collaborates with other key organizations such as the Gainesvile Housing Authority, Gainesville Police Department, State Attorney's Office, Alachua County School Board, and the Neighborhood Crime Watch groups to assist in providing an array of services to the citizens throughout our community. The Task Force provides community-based alternatives and interventions with collaborative planning taileored to meet the specific needs of youth with multiple risk factors and their families. Their goal is to affect long-term change in the community. One program that is the center focus of the Black on Black Crime Task Force is the Reichert House. The Reichert House program has been in exsistence since 1987 serving as an after school program designed for youth who have multiple risk factors and are in need of assistance in making the transition from adolescense to adulthood. The Reichert House program as a middle school and a separate high school componenet that offers a combination of discipline, work, social and recreational activities to foster a balanced environment for those enrolled. These are 100 youth currently enrolled in the Reichert House program, ranging in age from 11-18 years. Reichert House recently completed as addition to their campus by constructing a high school career and aceademic center. This building is 2,400 square feet and was designed to provide a facility for both academic and career training opportunities for the high school population. Also, we had plans to include a multi-purpose cetner. However, due ti fiscal restraints, we were unable to reach this objective. If we were to obtain adequate funding for this room, we whould like to use it to help create a parent college. We envision offering parents education, training and seminars while their youth are engaged in regular activities being offered at the Reichert House. We realize that parents play an important role in their child's development. Many parents are in need of additional skills that will assist them in managing their children. This proposal will provide space for parents of Reichert House youth and their siblings, to use this structure simultaneously. In addition, the multi-purpose room will offer greater spcae for conducting seminars and similar opportunities for the youth currently enrolled in the program. We envision, with in-kind services, the cost estimate for this project is $100.00 per square foot and the multi-purpose room should be about 700 square feet. We anticipate this room will accommodate50 people at one time. We have already purchased the land to accommodate this project.
