Statewide Interest: |
The Juvenile Workforce Reform Vocational Training Initiative (JWRVT) has statewide interest in reducing the number of juvenile recidivism by developing employability skills among youthful offenders under the jurisdiction and control of the Department of Juvenile Justice which will ultimately lead to permanent job placement. Presently, the Dept. of Corrections has had the benefit of the Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Developmental Enterprises "PRIDE" for the past 25 years to provide employability skills training and job placement services to inmates to reduce the likelihood of them recidivating upon release from prison. The JWRVT will be the conduit to provide specific Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Electrical and Roofing training to juvenile justice youth confined to ten (10) commitment residential facilities. These instructional serices will be provided under the management and oversight of the FPA through individualized subcontract with localized faith and/or community based organizations. The impact of this initiative will alleviate the potential of an increase in the number of violent crimes committed by juvenile offenders in the state of Florida. |
