| Project Description: |
| Twenty girls and their babies (under 18 months) from around Florida are served at a private not for profit provider facility. AMI has been serving this population for over five years. Additional need has increased demand. PROBLEM: Other Department of Juvenile Justice commitment programs currently separate mother and child. WINGS Program provide 24/7 secure custody, care, treatment, parenting skills and supervision. The average length of stay is 6 - 9 months. Current data indicates that gender-specific programming MUST address the risk factors that initially contributed to the girl's delinquency. The program is specifically designed to focus on intellectual development, family & relationships, sexual, emotional, physical and spiritual development and offer intense parenting skills and training. Current funding is inadequate, and needs a per diem increase, this would increase per diem by $25.00 a day. |
