Statewide Interest:
Youth programs that instill respect and appreciation for senior citizens will be beneficial for all entities of any given area. Crime will decrease as these programs develop because the students become affiliated and instilled with good deeds. The seniors enjoy a wonderful time with the youth and feel young again which will minimize healthcare costs and provide the seniors with a much better quality of life. This is the inter-generational link that we know is a necessity and will benefit individuals, businesses, and government entities.

Project Description:
Adopt-A-Grandparent provides an intergenerational series sponsored by United Jewish Generations (UJG) for residents of South Florida (Miami-Dade & Broward County) area. Adopt-A- Grandparent allows senior citizens the opportunity to form a relationship with high school students, to share quality time and to become engaged in pastimes of arts & crafts, cooking, games and conversation. High school students are earning community service hours helping out seniors in a way that no one else can. Adopt-A-Grandparent will provide activities that enhance appreciation of heritage and culture for the adoptive family. Senior citizens often experience feelings of loneliness, boredom, and isolation from family and a sense of life without purpose. High school students' visits will enhance the seniors' lives through companionship and the knowledge that someone is involved, entertaining and spending time together. This program provides high school students positive character role modeling, good character traits of honesty, morality, kindness and wisdom, while at the same time the seniors enjoy (and maybe it will rub off on them!) the youthful spirit and joy of their new family member. It is the goal of Adopt-A-Grandparent to engage the elderly with meaningful activity that brings interest, pleasure and enjoyment to them where they live, without their having to incur the nconveniences of travel. New friendships and family will ultimately be forged. Lives will be enriched for all who participate. Adopt-A-Grandparent ought to be funded because it offers arts and crafts, entertainment and enlightenment. It promotes a positive and healing environment to those who would benefit from and appreciate this unique programming. Lastly, it fosters a unique relationship between two generations that would receive more
