Public Sector Physician Advisory Committee.
458.346 Public Sector Physician Advisory Committee.--
(1) LEGISLATIVE INTENT.--The purpose of this section is to recognize the unique circumstances encompassing the practice of medicine in the public sector by creating a Public Sector Physician Advisory Committee.
(2) PUBLIC SECTOR PHYSICIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE.--There is hereby created a Public Sector Physician Advisory Committee which shall be comprised of three physicians. One physician shall be appointed by the chair of the Board of Medicine. The two remaining physicians shall be appointed by the secretary of the department from recommendations of the appropriate organization, if any, representing such physicians for the purpose of collective bargaining. The chair of the committee shall be one of the two public sector physicians who shall be elected by majority vote of the committee members. Members of the committee shall serve 3-year terms and shall meet at least once each year or upon the call of the committee chair. The initial term for one public sector physician shall be for 2 years, and the other for 3 years. Members of the committee are subject to reappointment. Committee members shall receive reimbursement for per diem and travel expenses.
(3) COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES.--The committee shall have the following responsibilities:
(a) The committee shall review and make recommendations to the board on all matters relating to public sector physicians that come before the board.
(b) Make recommendations to the Governor for the appointment of one public sector physician to serve on the Board of Medicine. The committee shall recommend three public sector physicians for such appointment, all of which shall be qualified to serve in accordance with such qualifications as outlined in this chapter.
