Bond of sheriffs; large counties.
Bond of sheriffs; large counties.
—In each county in the state having a population in excess of 150,000 according to the last state census, the sheriff shall give bond as required by the board of county commissioners, to be filed with the clerk of the circuit court and be conditioned upon the faithful discharge of the duties of his or her office. When a sheriff is appointed to fill a vacancy, a bond may not be a prerequisite to succession in office; however, if the county commission requires a bond for the office of sheriff, the commission shall allow a period of 10 days after the effective date of the appointment in which the bond may be provided.
