Power to appoint sheriff.
—Whenever any sheriff in the state shall fail to attend, in person or by deputy, any term of the circuit court or county court of the county, from sickness, death, or other cause, the judge attending said court may appoint a sheriff, who shall assume all the responsibilities, perform all the duties, and receive the same compensation as if he or she had been duly appointed sheriff, for said term of court and no longer.
