The mission of the Fl. Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is to serve as an advisory and coordinating body which recommends policies that address the needs of the deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened and deaf-blind persons, as well as methods that improve the coordination of services among public and private entities and to provide technical assistance, advocacy and education.

Project Description:
The 400,000 appropriation would include salaries, benefits, and expenses for three Council staff members, pay for Council/Staff travel and provide/coordinate services. Public comment has illustrated the critical need for advocacy and coordination of services which warrants outreach efforts by the Council to affect and improve practices across Florida.

The benefits of funding will include: increased coordination among public/private agencies serving deaf/hard of hearing individuals service delivery and referral, enhanced education and outreach, improved agency compliance with accessibility standards and the development of a qualified interpreter registry.
