The funding for this project will be used to extend HAAAC's awareness services to Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Orange, and Hillborough counties among the underserved/uninsured Haitian communities. Detecting cancer and other diseases at an early stage is the key to improve survival, decrease mortality rates and decrease city and state's health related costs of these illnesses when in advanced and final stages.

Project Description:
Detecting cancer and other diseases at an early stage is the key to improve survival, decrease mortality rates, and decrease local and state health related costs of these illnesses caught in advanced and final stages. This proposed program is instrumental in increasing cancer awareness in the Haitian communities of the State of Florida. It provides linkage to cancer screening and has impacted the late-stage cancer complication/diagnosis. The Haitian American Association Against Cancer, Inc.'s 2006-2007 Comprehensive Education, Outreach, and Screening Cancer Program will provide outreach, education, and cancer screening tests to the Haitian Americans living in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe Counties, Belle Glade, Orlando and Tampa.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
50,000 non-insured, underserved Haitian women will be educated on breast and cervical cancer; 200 non-insured, underserved Haitian women will be screened for breast and cervical cancer; 50,000 non-insured, underserved Haitian men will be educated on prostate cancer; 200 non-insured, underserved Haitian men will be screened for prostate cancer; 50,000 non-insured, underserved Haitian men and women will be educated on colon cancer; 150 non-insured, underserved Haitian men and women will be educated on colon cancer; Distribution of 50,000 of Creole cancer brochures by HAAAC during community outreach activities
