The state would have a nationally and internationally recognized program for training world class leaders in the area of reseach on aging. Florida's older population uses a majority of Florida's health care resources and has a large impact on health care expenditures. These experts will identify issues related to the older population and the aging process and will identify and help solve these problems and issues.

Project Description:
This new program will train and mentor highly qualified and graduate students to conduct cutting-edge researh on aging. This program will create a new PhD in Edipemiology with a concentration on aging and will create a new Masters Degree in Aging and Geriatric Research. Florida has one of the largest and fastest growing older populations in the country and lacks a nationally recognized program for training world-class leaders in the area of reseach on aging. The older population uses a majority of the state health care resources and has a large impact on health care expenditures. Training experts who will accelerate and expand the research and knowledge of how to address issues related to the older population and to the aging processes is an important educational and public health need in Florida.

The State of Florida will have world class leaders in the area of research on aging. These experts will identify and help solve issues related to the ever-increasing elder population of Florida and their use of health care resources and other services as they age and will help develop lower cost alternatives and solutions.
