The program area has a high minority population with 40% of the families having incomes below the poverty level. Over 72% of the students from these homes recieve free or reduced lunch. These students are at risk of academic failure because of the high number of risk indicators associated with these students. The project will operate in an after school program for up to 210 students in grades 2-12 in ten schools in the project area and a summer reading camp for up to 50 students in grades 2-4. The program will provide instruction in reading, math, FCAT preperation, and computer skill development in an effort to reduce the gap between poor students and their more affluent school mates.
