Statewide Interest: |
This initiative has a dual statewide interest; the first is the continued reduction of juvenile recidivism by developing employability skills and eventual job placement of youthful offenders under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The second statewide interest is the creation of economic development through the establishment of an untapped revenue generating tax paying workforce (young persons). This initiative will further solidify the Governor's legacy of (juvenile) tough love as Florida continues to see crime reduction in various categories tracked and reported by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. |

Project Description: |
The JWDI initiative will provide employability skills, training and job placement utilizing the Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training (ASPECT) community based training curriculum created in British Columbia, Canada. Seven (7) of the ten (10) JWDI sites represent over 50% of all juvenile referrals in the State of Florida, to which this initiative is targeted to combat the high rates of recidivism. This initiative will also cultivate a relationship with the business community in an effort to create a seamless transition from juvenile offender to the youthful workforce. Up to 420 youth transitioning from juvenile justice to verified employment placement will receive a $250.00 stipend to assist in their workforce transition to be used for transportation, attire, work equipment, housing and etc. |
