Project Description: |
Capital Circle is a major arterial roadway circling the Tallahassee urban area, linking a major expressway (I-10) with US 27, US 90 and US 319. Segments of Capital Circle have been widended with a significant portion of the improvements being either directly funded or advance-funded by the City of Tallahassee or Leon County. Funding is sought for the PD&E study for the final segment of Capital Circle (SR 263) from Orange Ave to Crawfordville Highway, with a re-evaluation of SR 20 to Orange Ave, the one remaining Capital Circle section to be improved. A portion of this segment is a critical portion of the SIS link from the Tallahassee Regional Airport to I-10 and the primary emergency evacuation route from costal areas. The balance of the segment is designated as a "Regionally Significant Road." Benefits include the promotion of economic growth in the southern areas of the community with a combination of roadway improvement, sector planning efforts, growth management and economic incentives. The project is important for the efficient emergency evacuation of residents of low-lying or vulnerable coastal areas. The primary evacuation routes from the central panhandle are US 319 and SR 20, both of these roadways intersect with Capital Circle on the south and west side of Tallahassee. |
