Project Description:
This initiative seeks to construct several algal turf scrubbing water quality treatment systems adjacent to water bodies which currently discharge into the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) an Estuary of National Significance and a St Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) program priority water body. The resulting water quality improvements will also protect public health by removing pollutants from surface water bodies that are extensively used by the public for recreational purposes such as swimming, fishing and other work related activities.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Indian River County's section of the Lagoon is the second worst polluted section in the Lagoon's 154 mile length. Implementation of the Egret Marsh Regional Stormwater Park and the South, North and Main relief Canal stormwater treatment programs will improve water quality discharged from agricultural and urban parcels in the watershed.
