The Gateway Center for the Arts project will enhance the quality of life for Volusia County residents and visitors of every age, as well as its neighbors across the bridge in Sanford and Lake Mary with an easily accessible location just off I-4 & directly on Hwy 17-92. SW Volusia will move from an underserved area of the county to being a cultural bridge between Volusia, Lake, Orange & Seminole County. The location of the project at the corner of Saxon Blvd. & Hwy. 17-92 is ideal in relationship to the proposed commuter rail and the extension of Saxon Blvd. It will serve in the investment of taxpayers in transient service. The opportunity for festivals, quality classes, workshops, gallery exhibits, community & children's theater, puppetshows, and other displays and performance opportunities will provide cultural stimuli for commuters from the Orlando and Winter Park locations to visit Southwest Volusia. The cultural focus of the center will generate interest of other attractions within the area. such as ,DeBary Hall,Gemini Springs,Blue Springs,etc., inviting increased tourism for the State of Florida.

Project Description:
Gateway Center for the Arts is directed by DeBary Art League, a not-for-profit corporation. The project is to newly construct a cultural facility to serve an underserved area of Volusia County, primarily DeBary, Deltona, Orange City, Lake Helen and Enterprise. The proposed structure is to be a one story, multipupose, handicapped accessible building. The public will enter the building through a lobby and reception area which is contained in a 68x20 administrative space. The major program areas of the building consist of 3 concentric squares providing studio space for classrooms, workshops, creative theater and formal and informal exhibit space. The 4.9 acres of app. 10 acres of park property on which the building will stand are subleased for a period of 50 years(9/26/55) from the City of DeBary under the Prime Lease from the State of Florida , DEP, Division of Recreation and Parks. The project will bring cultural arts,fine arts exhibits,two and three dimensional art istruction,theater,Theater participation, music, writing, pottery, digital arts, photography and other educational activities to citizens of all ages.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Gateway Center for the Arts will provide suitable fulfillment of cultural, leisure and professional needs for cultural enrichment of children and adults in SW Volusia County by attracting visitors to the area via commuter rails and easy access from I-4 and 17-92. Demographics and interest in participants will be tracked through registration of classes, and polls of events.
