Statewide Interest: |
These segments are approaching capacity limits of the existing level of service standards. Improvements are needed to provide a high-speed hurricane evacuation route for the southwest sector of Escambia County and South Alabama; meet demands; support citizen property rights; continue economic stimulation, reduce time, money, and environmental impacts (ozone) due to delays and congestion
The Bridge connects the SR 292 Corridor to Alabama and the Barrier Island to the mainland of Northwest Florida. This phase along with the other phases of this project have received matching funds from Escambia County for the PD&E (Perdido Key Drive, Sorrento Road, and Blue Angel Parkway). However, acquiring design funds (231,000.00) for the Theo Baars Bridge will assist in advancing the project without delays encumbering future funds for the remaining segments

Project Description: |
The existing two-lane segments extend between the Alabama State Line (5-lanes) and US 98 (4-lanes). The funding will allow the completion of the contiguous multi-lane segment improving mobility and reducing congestion on the existing segments and parallel roadways
The existing Theo Baars Bridge is a concrete reinforced two-lane bridge (.409 Miles). The bridge expands over the intercostals waterway under jurisdiction of the Corps of Engineers. The future bridge will be matching in intent to supply support to the future four-lane project (SR.292 Corridor)
