Psychosocial Rehabilitation Clubhouse - Capital Outlay

Requester: Virama Oller Organization: Fellowship House

Project Title: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Clubhouse - Capital Outlay Date Submitted 1/13/2006 9:46:36 AM

Sponsors: Garcia

Statewide Interest:
The construction of a new Fellowship House facility, like the Clubhouse, will allow us to continue to provide highly individualized, client-centered services to individuals experiencing mental illness and co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. The need innovative, recovery-based additional mental health programs in the state of Florida is well documented and correlates to the statewide interest of meeting community demands. The implementation of a Clubhouse in southwest Miami-Dade will produce a positive measurable outcome for the mental health community. The only other operational Clubhouse within Miami is located in the northwest, limiting access for much of the southern city population.

Project Description:
The Clubhouse is a humanistic and cost-effective alternative to institutional care and offers individuals long term support, acceptance and hope for those that have been stigmatized by the overwhelming effects of mental illness. The Clubhouse will offer supportive staff, vocational instruction and employment training opportunities in an entirely consumer-operated program that provides the individuals served with the independence and confidence needed to focus on their strengths and make proactive decisions regarding their treatment and recovery. In order to develop this program according to the standards established by the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD) (http://www.iccd.org/ClubhouseStandards.asp) , which serves as the accrediting body for Clubhouse programs, Fellowship House needs funds to acquire and renovate a separate building facility. Fellowship House is requesting financial support in the amount of $750,000 to furnish the acquisition and construction related costs and to purchase essential supplies once the facility is completed.

Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Because Fellowship House's principles remain so closely aligned with central Clubhouse values, it is a logical progression to continue to expand this service and create an independent, yet complimentary program. The capital component of the Clubhouse request, building acquisition and renovation, will encompass the first desired outcome. The purchase of needed supplies, such as furniture, computers, materials and kitchen equipment will also serve as outcomes for the use of funding.
