Project Description: |
Modernize and expand the current 40 year old Emergency Operations Center(EOC serving the entire county.) EOC is activated for all space launches ensuring the residents, visitors, and tourists within the Central Florida region have adequate alerting and warning in the event of a launch accident. Brevard County is responsible for alerting and warning all persons in the public sector during launch accidents. EOC was activated for 4 hurricanes in 2004 and 2 in 2005 and is currently participating in a space launch with a major radiological source as a payload. Currently the 10,000 square foot facility is inadequate in size as well as aging infrastructure. This project would ensure the continuation of regional services (which impact the economy of the entire state) and would ensure the continuation of government and services would remain within the Space Coast during any emergency or disaster. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
EOC that meets the standards of the Florida EOC Guidelines for a county of 500,000 and is capable of providing the alerting, warning , continuation of government , and a focal point for all emergencies and disasters within the county. This county hosts the Worlds premier Space Port, unique space launches which have potential consequences, one of the world's fastest growing and largest cruise ports, and potentially serves as an East coast intermodal strategic transportation center. |
