Project Description:
At Gateway, people seeking recovery must wait 16 days for an assessment and up to 6 weeks for any type of residential treatment in publicly funded substance abuse treatment agencies. In order to reduce lengthy wait lists for substance abuse treatment, this project will establish an 800 number with treatment counselors for initial contact. Clients will be given several options for immediate engagement including an online or phone assessment, regularly scheduled individual or group telephone sessions, and chat rooms with counselors which will work on treatment readiness, motivation to treatment and community supports (such as AA/NA). Once piloted in Jacksonville, substance abuse agencies in other communities can refer clients to the 800 number while they are on a wait list for treatment.
