Project Description:
This project will provide a continuum of care for the Pregnancy Center's "at risk" clients (ages 15-34 uninsured and underserved)and for the community at large. Teens and young women will be encouraged to be partners in early prenatal care and in making birth plans for healthy maternal and infant outcomes. Care will be holistic in nature, preventative in focus and will provide an opportunity for families to become active participants. In addition, the home-like environment will offer prenatal education, sonography, doula services, water births and interference. The birth center will provide a safe, comfortable cost-effective environment for those births. It will be a licensed and insured free-standing 5000 sqaure foot facility with affiliation to physicians and hospitals in the area. A licesnsed qualified staff, operating within the limits of midwifery practice will provide professional antepartum and postpartum care. It is anticipated that the services will be effective in improving maternal and infant health outcomes for Pinellas County.
