Statewide Interest: |
The purpose of this project is to improve the educational component and business capacity of the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) by creating interactive exhibits that will enable ISHOF to better educate the public about the importance of swimming for both health and safety. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under five years old in Florida and it is the second leading cause of accidental death for all children under the age of 18, causing about 1,500 child fatalities per year. Both pediatricians and geriatricians agree that swimming is the best exercise and therefore the best way to ward off symptoms or effects of a multitude of different diseases. |

Project Description: |
The International Swimming Hall of Fame requests funds to expand and improve its exhibits, traveling exhibits and other educational components for the purpose of making it a "must see" attraction for all Floridians. The museum is the only one of its kind in the world and has the world's most extensive collection of Olympic medals, swim wear, video and film collection related to aquatics and lifesaving. The goal is to increase awareness about the history and importance of swimming, for both safety and health, and inspire swimming for the public welfare by creating interactive exhibits and educational materials to attract school and other programs to the municipal facility. |
