Project Description: |
Develop a stormwater control system that supports the need for water supply during periods of drought and the need for flood control during wet seasons
Provide for improved sediment removal to improve the chances for successful ecosystem restoration downstream. Over time, this will improve the hydraulic capacity of Deep Creek as well as provide eco-recreational opportunities.
Create a system of nitrogen and phosphate pollution removal that will support the larger County effort to achieve mandated TMDL goals
Reduce groundwater consumption by providing alternative water supply for agricultural irrigation.
Provide for pressurized reclaimed water hydrants to improve fire protection in the Southwest St. Johns County area.

Yes |
|
Name of water body: |
Lower St. Johns River Basin(Tri-County Agricultural Area) |
|
Describe, specifically, how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings: |
Provide sufficient stormwater treatment and storage capacity to support three months of agricultural irrigation needs annually for 1700 acres of nearby farmland. The plan would support irrigation during the months of March, April, and May, which are the seasonal dry months when agricultural irrigation is the highest. An estimated 642.6 million gallons of stormwater runoff would be treated and recycled to the cultivated areas annually. It is estimated that 6000 pounds of nitrogen and 580 pounds of total phosphorous could be removed from discharge to Deep Creek as a result of this effort.
When the system is not used to supply irrigation needs, the Sixteen Mile Creek Stormwater Reclamation Facility provides about 215 acre-feet of traditional wet-detention stormwater treatment followed by final treatment in a 73-acre wetland. Operating nine months per year, the stormwater treatment facility has the capacity to remove more than 3700 pounds of Total Nitrogen and 600 pounds of Total Phosphorous annually.
