Project Description: |
The focus of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Centers educational outreach programming for the 2008-2009 school year will be centered on combating hatred, prejudice and bigotry which ultimately leads to genocide by using primary eyewitness Holocaust Survivors-the 21st Century heroes to teach the universal lessons of the Holocaust. This will be made possible through 12-14 prejudice reduction programs entitled Student Awareness Days, an interactive website, an enhanced Speakers Bureau, classroom visits to the Center to meet with a Survivor, an Authors Series, Adult and Student Book Clubs, and a Teachers Institute on Holocaust Education where teachers will have the opportunity to spend a week with Survivors. The Visual Arts and Writing Contest will be a product of the experiences students have when they meet and talk with a Survivor of the Holocaust. |
