Project Description:
The focus of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center�s educational outreach programming for the 2008-2009 school year will be centered on combating hatred, prejudice and bigotry which ultimately leads to genocide by using primary eyewitness Holocaust Survivors-the 21st Century heroes to teach the universal lessons of the Holocaust. This will be made possible through 12-14 prejudice reduction programs entitled Student Awareness Days, an interactive website, an enhanced Speakers� Bureau, classroom visits to the Center to meet with a Survivor, an Authors� Series, Adult and Student Book Clubs, and a Teachers� Institute on Holocaust Education where teachers will have the opportunity to spend a week with Survivors. The Visual Arts and Writing Contest will be a product of the experiences students have when they meet and talk with a Survivor of the Holocaust.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Studying the Holocaust will encourage students to reflect on moral and ethical questions and their responsibilities as citizens of a democracy. It will also help them understand the effects and dangers of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping in our society. Students, teachers, and all other participants will be filling out evaluations at the end of each program.
