Minority Women's Education/Screening Outreach for Heart Disease/Diabetes

Requester: Kimberly A. Guy Organization: St. Joeseph's Women's Hospital

Project Title: Minority Women's Education/Screening Outreach for Heart Disease/Diabetes Date Submitted 12/27/2007 2:26:24 PM

Sponsors: Joyner

Statewide Interest:
Historically, minority women, specifically African Americans, have a higher incidence of heart disease/diabetes that often goes untreated until the diseases are more advanced and more costly to treat. By improving access to education/screening for prevention and early identification of heart disease/diabetes, this program would lead to decreased healthcare costs (Medicaid, Medicare and other payor categories including the uninsured) as the higher level of medical utilization needed by women diagnosed in the later stages of the disease process would be avoided.
